Why English Poetry is Hard to Automate
English poetic metre is based on syllable strength. This is as opposed to Arabic, Latin, and ancient Greek poetic metre, which is based on syllable length. The latter can be analyzed, and even automated, in a straightforward manner. The former would require a system that has "listened" to thousands of hours of native English speakers and determined where stress occurs naturally, notwithstanding dialectic differences.
For example, whether one says "MAD-ra-sah", like a Levantine, or "mad-RA-sah", like an Egyptian, the syllable lengths are the same. It's merely the syllable strengths that differ, and that isn't relevant to Arabic poetry. As another example, the words, "Allah" and "Su'ad" are metrically equivalent in English, as they're both iambs. They differ in Arabic, because the first syllable of the Divine Name is long (closed) while the first syllable of "Su'ad" is short (open).
To make things more difficult, English stress patterns are not fixed. They can differ based on emphasis, but that's not all. They also differ based on where a word occurs in a sentence. For example, when we say, "for sale", the word "for" is unstressed. Compare this to, "What did you do that for?", where "for" is highly stressed.
Matters are even more complicated when it comes to verse, because an iamb is simply a pair of syllables where the second is more stressed than the first. It is possible for the stressed syllable of one foot to be weaker than the unstressed syllable of another foot. Take this famous verse by Shakespeare as an example:
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
In this verse, "to" is stressed. However, it is weaker than "Shall", even though that syllable is unstressed. Yes, it is possible to use a trochaic substitution for the first foot, but the point is that even if it's read as an iamb (which is a valid native English reading), the unstressed syllable of "Shall" is still stronger than the stressed syllable of "to". This is true because stress patterns in iambic verse are only scanned at the foot level, not the verse level.

b. Partial similarity between the only qualitative-quantitative meter of Arabic with the metric syllables 1,2 and 3 and the above mentioned quantitative meters.
c. Analogy between the stress-based English meter and meters mentioned in type (a)
d. Partial Analogy between the stress-based English and qualitative-quantitative Arabic meter.

يعتمد مقياس الشعر الإنجليزي [النبري] على قوة المقطع. هذا على عكس المقياس الشعري العربي واللاتيني واليوناني القديم ، والذي يعتمد على طول المقطع. يمكن تحليل هذا الأخير ، وحتى آليًا ، بطريقة مباشرة. يتطلب الأول نظامًا يتم فيه الاستماع لآلاف الساعات من المتحدثين الأصليين للغة الإنجليزية وحدد مكان حدوث التوتر بشكل طبيعي ، مع استحضار اختلاف اللهجات.

ومما يزيد الأمر صعوبة ، أن أنماط النبر في اللغة الإنجليزية غير ثابتة. إذ يمكن أن تختلف بناءً على التركيز ، لكن هذا ليس كل شيء. فهي تختلف بناءً على مكان ورود الكلمة في الجملة. على سبيل المثال ، عندما نقول "for sale" ، فإن كلمة "for" غير مشددة. قارن هذا بـ ، "What did you do that for?"، حيث يتم التأكيد بشدة على كلمة " for ".
تكون الأمور أكثر تعقيدًا عندما يتعلق الأمر بالنظم ، لأن iamb=12 (الإيامبي21 ) هو مجرد زوج من المقاطع حيث يكون الثاني أكثر تشديدًا من الأول. من الممكن أن يكون المقطع اللفظي لإحدى القدمين أضعف من المقطع غير المضغوط في قدم أخرى. خذ هذه الآية الشهيرة لشكسبير كمثال:
